“My child is currently a pupil at the school I work at and has been involved with PawsDog sessions. He attended weekly every Tuesday with Hamish the therapy dog, his experience at the program has been incredibly positive and I can't recommend it enough. From the beginning it was clear that the presence of the dog created a calm and supportive environment for the children.
My childs confidence at school was low and they didn't have many friends, certain school situations made him feel anxious. But spending time with Hamish the therapy dog has made a noticeable difference. The sessions give the children something to look forward to and they were going home happier and more relaxed. My child was paired with another child in a similar situation, since then they have grown closer and share a lovely bond. It's been wonderful to see their confidence grow, especially in areas with sharing their ideas in class, as well as reading aloud to the class.
The program is very well organised, and the handlers are professional, kind and clearly passionate about what they do. The handlers ensure that my child feels comfortable and safe while encouraging them gently to read aloud to Hamish.
The emotional beneift that the dog has provided is a sense of comfort that's hard to replicate in other ways. For my child, who struggled with stress, anxiety and self esteem this kind of support is invaluable.
Overall this has been a fantastic addition to my childs education and school environment, it has not only supported my childs emotional wellbeing but also made school a more enjoyable and welcoming place that they now want to attend.
